The Bridge
The Bridge is my interpretation of the cyclical nature of everything, connecting The Known to The Unknown. This video is a personal project made using 10 digital collages, which were commissioned by Vogue India, for a campaign celebrating 36 women doing incredible work on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Known is our comfort zone, an understanding that most of us wake up to every morning. It is how we make sense of our surroundings - the lens through which we observe some elements and ignore others. Often, this is disrupted by a new path and sometimes that path is paved by Catastrophe. It is a hard brake to the journey, in which we didn't intend to stop at all. As we are jolted out of our comfort zones, some of us find ourselves called to action and others to cooperate. With a sense of Worship, we hope and pray to find our way, in these new landscapes. But answers are hard to come by and as we move, unguided, even with all our hard work, we dwell in Uncertainty. But as we stumble along, trying to forge new paths, Life continues to blossom. Acceptance of the new, helps us map out new roads and we grow. Eventually the arrow of time brings Death to our doorsteps, like all things natural. Having understood the situation in our own way, we hold on what is dear to us and we Wait. As our perseverance pays off, we slowly come to experience a Resurgence. The transformation of what we feared into what we now understand. Marked by our struggles, we make sense of this new reality. Our scars remind us of the courage and strength we found in ourselves to arrive at the end of the bridge with the knowledge that the next step will be on solid ground. But having arrived, we find that the grass feels different, the air tastes different, and the sunlight almost blinds us, as we open our eyes again in a really long time. Glancing at the scars one more time we realise that there is still much that we must make sense of in all this. That the Unknown, will always lap at our feet, like breaking waves. After having experienced this cycle over and over, we wonder if there's something beyond this cycle. And so we have a peek.
