In my first Project at University, I focused on realism within images by photographing people's scars and body deformities. This was my response to the wave of hugely doctored images found on social media sites, such as Instagram, and as a way to claw back the 'real' body of the person more usually found in day-to-day life. My subjects had a wide variety of different scars, from more 'standard' scars like self-harm to more extreme limb loss caused by an IED attack whilst serving in the armed forces. I chose to use 35mm film, as I felt it had a far more indexical quality to it, and i preferred the image quality over that of its digital counterpart.
