Things Left Behind

This is a short sketch I shot and edited on 31st August 2019 using my 3 year old iPhone 6s Plus and a 4K video app. I wasn't expecting to make a film today, it just sort of happened. I was shopping on Deptford High Street and heard this guy playing the accordion and it inspired me for a whole range of reasons. Round the corner is the Deptford Junk Market, and so I filmed the busket Constantin (from Romania) 3 times playing a tune (I gave him some baccy and promised him £3) and then I went to film the junk market. After filming my battery was dead so I bought myself a hotdog and then gave Constantin the £3 I promised once I had finished and was on my way home. This is just a personal sketch, but I find the junk market fascinating as it is a metaphor for the march of technology. I am also currently trying to push my grading skills from just colour balancing to achieve realistic looks to something more "promo-esque" for want of a better word. Hence the extreme feel to this. I am not 100% happy, but I will leave it as it is. I did a basic sound mix, but I knew which take I would use for the audio so I kept close to him as possible so as to minimise external sounds. I love the old East-End fella in the suit giving him some money. In total including filming and post I have spent about 4 hours on this. (Some of you might say it shows lol). But I like the feeling and it has a good heart and I think that comes across. I have always been more interested in the substance than the style and prefer things to be a bit rough around the edges if the intent is there. If you like it, cool.
