Picture and audio post production on 1 x 60 min one off drama for ITV 1. Tommy Cooper: Not Like That, Like This tells the story of one of Britain's best-loved comedians - a giant of a man with a delicate soul, a man who was in love with two women and was unable to choose between them.
Tommy Cooper was a magician, a comedian, an entertainer and a celebrity adored by the public. But he was a troubled man who drank too much and slept too little, and who spent the last 17 years of his life loving both his wife Dove and his assistant Mary. Tommy was unable to live without either, and his shocking death from a heart attack in front of millions of television viewers in April 1984 meant that he never had to make that impossible choice.
Aidan Farrell used the Nucoda Film Master to complete the grade and look on this beautiful film about the life of Tommy Cooper. By using various tools and plug-ins Farrell gave the piece various tones, contrast, hue, saturation and texture. One of the challenges was to subtlety create looks to emphasise the various periods and time frames within the story. Farrell portrayed a very cinematic feel to the film that complimented the content.
Nigel Edwards mixed the audio with Pro Tools 11. The sound mix for Tommy Cooper required the building of audience laughs and reactions for everything from working men's clubs, TV audiences and finally Tommy's Final performance at "Live from Her Majesty's". The Farm has built up an enviable library of laughs and audience reactions from a huge variety of shows, combining that with its award winning drama sound team to produce a stunning mix.
The sound for Tommy cooper presented a number of challenges. Most of the performance sections of the show where shot with little or no audience, this was added at the mix. The performance sections were built up with a variety of laughs to match the various periods of Tommy's career and the range of locations he performed in. The Farm has built up an extensive library of audiences reactions over the years and matched with its award winning audio team has produced a mix that does the performances the justice they deserve.
