The installation commissioned by 100% Design for The Forum is a savage interpretation of Alice’s garden gone wrong, a vividly monochrome dream rendered in handcrafted macramé. Taking inspiration from the textile and fashion industry, the Forum recreates the classical proportions of the venue’s architecture in a soft and tactile material gesture. The simplicity of the scheme and scale of the arch, 3 metres wide by 3 metres high, is meant to connect the onlooker to the grand scale of the gallery under which it sits. Onlookers are encouraged to stop and touch the installation and to create an emotional experience for themselves instead of merely experiencing it visually. The installation is a nod to the revival of handcrafted techniques in contemporary architecture and a celebration of the surreal in everyday life.
