UpCycler is a living database for the promotion and distribution of upcycled projects. We conducted eight user interviews, which provided some insight into the attitudes around self-paced learning and upcycling in general. This data, paired with the market research findings helped jumpstart the ideation process for an UpCycler interface. Our initial goal was to design a marketplace for users to buy, sell and learn from one another in one centralized application. Eventually, I had to find a ways to make the app more socially driven. Rather than creating another social platform for buying and selling content, I gathered through user feedback that a supportive, open-source environment would be much more effective in fostering a community of DIY makers.
