Viceland's Gaycation—Title Sequence & In-Show Graphics
Two time Emmy-nominated GAYCATION is a VICELAND documentary television series featuring Ellen Page and her best friend Ian Daniel, exploring LGBTQ culture around the world. The title sequence tackles the wide tonal range of the show, from deeply upsetting to tender, sweet moments, with an overall undercurrent of rebellion in fighting for human rights.
Combined with an original track from the band, CSS, the title sequence fuses a colorful, painterly aesthetic — subtly hinting at the rainbow flag — with a scratchy filmic motif to create a powerful, high energy open. Each episode’s titles, shown in this montage, are unique, incorporating location-specific footage and iconography, creating a defiant and dynamic title sequence to represent each episode.
The title sequence was nominated for a PromaxDBA award for Outstanding Title Sequence, included on the Clio Short List and featured in Art of the Title.
