Volcano Rover

  • Benjamin Hockings

During my final year at the University of Bristol, I and 5 Engineering Design students were tasked with designing and building a rover capable of traversing the harsh volcanic terrain found in the crater of an extremely active volcano in Guatemala named Fuego. This volcano is difficult to monitor via conventional means and is therefore very difficult to predict. The rover was designed to retrieve environmental data that can be used to better understand the volcano's behaviour and ultimately be used to inform local populations.
