World Interaction Design Day

World Interaction Design Day is a global celebration of interaction design impact on improving the human condition.

Presented in partnership by Adobe and the Interaction Design Association, events will take place in communities across the world on September 24, 2019. This includes presentations, workshops, and design showcases focused on elevating the work of interaction designers, and knowledge sharing.

This year's theme is trust and responsibility. Design operates at the intersection of the humanities and technology. Humanity entrusts the work of designers in order to function in modern society. With increasing reliance on their work, is an increasing, and ethical, responsibility for designers to put their user’s needs first.

Emerging technologies like AR, VR, Voice, and AI only further complicate matters of trust in design, as we tap deeper into fundamental issues of communication and human relationships.

This year’s theme challenges the interaction design community to explore their impact on trust and responsibility in their work, workplace, communities, and beyond.

What does trust and responsibility look like? What color is it? Can you even define it? These are just a few of the thoughts going through our minds as we took on this project. What made this identity so challenging, and intriguing, was figuring out a way to visually display a concept that means something different to everyone.

It didn’t take us long to realize that we needed to think about this more broadly. We began developing what is known as a mind map. A mind map is a diagram drawn out to visually see your thought process, and how all of these thoughts connect to each other. It’s the same process AI (like Siri) goes through before giving you the solution to your question.

This idea of the mind map is was led to the creation of the logotype and the following visual identity.
