"We must not forget Yang Min-hyuk, who will arrive in January next year. If he stays at the club instead of on loan in the second half of this season, he can be included in the U-21 list in the English Premier League. However, if Tottenham passes the UEFA Europa League tournament, it should be registered in the main group of UEL," the British Football London said on Sunday.
Yang Min-hyuk may be able to play in Tottenham's first team right away, but it will not be easy to compete for a starting player. Tottenham also would not have brought Yang Min-hyuk with immediate power. Still, if Yang Min-hyuk wants to remain in Tottenham's first team and be given a chance to play little by little, he must be registered for the team.
There is no problem in participating in the English Cup including the EPL. The EPL has very relaxed regulation on registration of players. If all 25 players who can register for the first team are included, if Yang is registered for Tottenham U-21 for a while, it will not affect his use in the first team games. The EPL has allowed players under the age of 21 to play in the first team games without having to register them separately.
The problem is UEL. The UEL can register a maximum of 25 players in its first team. A minimum of two goalkeepers are required. An important part of field player registration is that four players who have trained at Tottenham for three years or more before age 21 and eight players who have trained at Tottenham Hotspur in England before age 21 must be registered together.
If there is a lack of players in the former or the latter, the number of players who can register will be reduced by the number of players who cannot register. For example, if there are only three players who have been trained at Tottenham for more than three years before the age of 21, only 24 players can register at Tottenham.
Currently, Tottenham has only two players in the first team who have been trained at Tottenham for more than three years before the age of 21. Even that is the end for goalkeepers Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin. If Tottenham does not recruit players who have been trained at Tottenham for more than three years during the remaining transfer window, they will have to play in the Europa League with 23 players.
Excluding Sergio Reguilon and Giovanni Lo Celso, who are currently on the release list, Tottenham has 24 first-team players to register at UEL. Even though Yang Min-hyuk has not come to Tottenham yet, one first-team player cannot register at UEL immediately.
Against this backdrop, it is unclear whether Yang Min-hyuk, who has yet to be verified on the European stage, will be included in the UEL roster. Since Yang Min-hyuk has to prepare for the UEL tournament stage after joining the team, the possibility of Yang Min-hyuk's registration for the UEL squad seems to be coldly low.
Unlike the EPL, Yang can play in the UEL only when he is included in the first-team squad. The EPL also allows young players who are not registered in the first-team squad to play in the EPL, but only players who have been registered in the team for more than two years after the age of 15 are classified as youth players. Yang said, "Youth age can apply, but players who have been registered in Tottenham for more than two years cannot be selected as a youth player.
Under general circumstances, Yang Min-hyuk's way to go to UEL as Tottenham's first team is to bring field players who have been trained at Tottenham for more than three years before the age of 21 through the remaining summer and winter transfer markets. The problem is that Tottenham is very unlikely to move in this direction in the transfer market.
