About me
Are you an event organiser looking for an experienced speaker to engage your audience with a talk packed with interactive demonstrations, surprises and self-discovery based on research? Audiences leave my talks feeling excited by what they learned about themselves and wanting to tell others about the experience. I inspire audiences to discover what makes them so uniquely human in a world obsessed with AI. “100% recommend Sarah. Her event for us was by far the most interactive, thought provoking and hilarious event we put on for members!” Avalyn Kasahara, Future Strategy Club “Hire this woman. Your organisation deserves it. Trust me, Sarah is a one-in-a-million speaker your people need to experience.” Paul Armstrong, TBD “Sarah is a fantastic speaker—she engages audiences with a brilliant mix of warmth, good humour and real insight. She quickly warmed up a noisy crowd and had them eating out of her hand, everyone taking part (almost unheard of) and I only heard good things afterwards.” Luke Tonge, Glug Birmingham I founded Type Tasting in 2013. I create conversation-provoking and research-based experiences that transform what you think feel and do. My interactive workshops, immersive events and multisensory installations will challenge your assumptions about how your unique brain interacts with the world. People say nice things like “eye opening”, “mindblowing” and “f*!*ing genius!”. I’m the author of books including the bestselling Why Fonts Matter (Penguin/Random House) and writing a new one. I speak at events around the world including Adobe MAX, SXSW and TEDx. I’m a guest on radio and TV (Word of Mouth with Michael Rosen, Today and Saturday Live on BBC Radio 4, also Sunday Brunch on Channel 4). I specialise in making the topic entertaining and relevant for a mainstream audience with humour, a dash of theatre and lashings of audience participation. I’ve been measuring the emotional impact of type since 2013. I co-publish multisensory typography studies with Professor Charles Spence of the Crossmodal Research Laboratory, University of Oxford, and I’m chef Heston Blumenthal’s font science expert. I’m Jury President for this year’s D&AD Typography Award, having previously been a judge for both the Professional and the New Blood Awards. I gained a Master's degree in Typo/Graphics at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London (distinction). I then taught the yearlong Experimental Typography evening course at LCC for six years alongside my commercial practice. Twitter: @SarahHyndman / @TypeTasting Instagram @TypeTasting

“Fictional exhibition about fonts • Visual identity”It’s one of my dreams to create a whole immersive, interactive and multisensory exhibition about fonts, so it was exiting to discover Deborah Habensur’s “Fictional exhibition about fonts • Visual identity” for an exhibition inspired by my book posted on her Instagram @deborahabensurdesign. I’ve already created interactive installations like the immersive font booth at Adobe MAX in Los Angeles, the multisensory and interactive jellybean tasting experiment at Trapholt and the font diagnosis inter

Open Studios, Secret Santa gifts and typographic Christmas jumpersThe most uttered phrase I’ve heard around me this week has been “I don’t know where to start”. All the artists in the studios around me have been preparing for our in-person Winter Open Studios tomorrow. It’s always so magical to see how the studios get transformed from working spaces into showcases for our work.

Type Tasting was founded by Sarah Hyndman in 2013 as part of her mission to change the way we talk and think about typography by exploring it from the type consumer's point of view. Type Tastings are multisensory installations, immersive events, innovative workshops and fun talks with lashings of audience participation. Sarah challenges your assumptions and encourages you to think differently about the experience of typography. She shows that typography is the language of consumer culture and that it documents the history of changing social attitudes.
