A question for creatives!

What is the primary obstacle or challenge that, if resolved, would have the most immediate and positive impact on your creative career?

  • Getting seen by the right people, absolutely. I found the hardest thing when I was freelance was finding who to talk to, what to apply for, etc. Because it is so different for everyone, there is no 'right way' to figure it out, and it felt (and honestly still feels) like this huge mountain of a question mark
  • @Veronica Asenso I guess but 'right people' I mean those dream clients who's vision fits with your own, who love your work and hire you to do your thing, for them. As someone who prefers 'word of mouth' work over tireless self-promotion (who doesn't?!), the pool remans small, and I just wish there were more places where niche artists/creatives could get targeted views from clients looking for something specific. Maybe they do exist and I'm just not aware, or, more likely, it really is more about who you know and 'right place right time' (which is the case with the majority of my jobs).
  • People not rekognizing the value of a Creative, not understanding whats behind a 4 year education.

And having people/ wesites like fiverr messing up for the industry

To many people hustling for pocketchange
  • @Veronica Asenso referrals and word of mouth are great, and useful, but if you're trying to break into a new market, referrals and word of mouth only go as far as your current batch of contacts.
  • @Jess Wooller what do you mean when you say opportunities. What kind of opportunities? Same with devoping skills, what kind of skills? I also feel like it's hard to find or even provide skillsharing opportunities for free, unless it's funded in some shape or form.
  • @Tim Topple I guess it depends who you would consider "the right people". It's either meeting these people in person or sharing your work on platforms that showcases the work of various artists. Which is usually agency websites..
  • Great question, there are so many challenges!
More paid opportunities/financial support would have a positive imapct.
  • Getting a good agent and getting into the right room also the opportunity to meet producers and casting directors I suppose
  • I agree with Jon below - getting work seen by the right potential clients is the biggest block in this digital world swamped with 'content'
  • Getting my work in front of the right people For the right fit.
  • I agree with Neeq below, more opportunities and support for creative mothers, the job/family balance is a hard one to juggle. Plus, a place to share and develop skills for free, creating a network/creative hive.
