- Send an email and linkedin message letting everyone you know that you are starting and available. Explain how you can help and that if they know anyone that needs this service you are the woman to call. Also sign up for recruitment agencies related to your field. It's difficult to find a good agent, but when you get it it's gold.Good luck!
- Hi @Tianna Johnson, first of all - welcome to freelancing! :)Me and my husdband have together over 20 years of experience as freelancers, so we launched last year Freelance Success, a platform to help other people build thriving freelance businesses. We have a loads of free and resources there - here's link to our blog if you want to check it out: https://freelancesuccess.co.uk/blog/Best of luck!
- Hey!Be always confident in yourself and don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you need in order to do your job well. Learn as much as possible and try to translate your past learnings into any new project. Don't forget to take time off for yourself (even if it means you lose the money for those days), self care is the most important :)
- Set yourself up on PayPal or a similar platform - easiest way to invoice clients that automates a PDF, and you can set a deadline so the clients have to pay you within 30 days or you can charge! Also keeps track of all your invoices to download when you have to do HMRC taxes in January
- @Lucy Wilkinson Thank you!
- @Cheryl Chia Thanks for sharing this with me!
- @Ø Macioti Thanks so much!
- Make contracts your best friends and charge 50% upfront so if your client ghosts you you don’t miss out on all the money, regardless of the contract.
- Freelance doesn't mean free! A lot of companies still think you can live on "exposure" and bylines without paying you for your work. So make sure you look out for yourself and earn a fair wage for your work.
- Save 30% of all you earnings for tax! Might be a boring one but it's the best piece of advice I received when starting out. You won't find yourself in trouble when it comes to tax returns :)
