How many of you uses meditation as part of your creative process?

Hi all!
I've been meditating for several years, but more intensely and consistenly since mid-2020 due to a health complication. It has had an incredible effect on my creativity and now it is a crucial part of my creative process.

There are specific tools and techniques that are specially useful for creators but I haven't found much written or said about it online and I am tempted to write a short guide to share with others.

I just completed a mediation teacher training ( as a hobby :)) and feel even more equipped for the task. So here goes a little market research: Do you meditate? Would you be interested in knowing how meditation can help you in your creative process? if you already medidate but not consistently, what would make you be more consistent with your practice?

Thank you!
:)

  • I don’t actually meditate, but I do have a tendency to take a nap when I’m working through a problem, so I would be very interested in this!
  • I use meditation to help me manage my stress levels and minimise my self doubts. By clearing my cluttered thoughts, I'm able to consciously acknowledge the ideas or beliefs that are no longer serving me, and allow creativity to flow through me intuitively without judgement. It also helps me strengthen my visualisation skills.
  • @Katie Killip thank you Katie! I’ll keep you posted :) Actually, in my experience, a breathing or simple meditation practice is the absolute basis for any other techniques, used every once in a while, focused on concrete intentions (like visualization or reflection). Then both practices communicate. I often get the answers I’m looking for after the meditation, journaling or just going about my day and the basis of the practice is what makes it possible. 8 years! Marvelous :)
  • 100% discovering meditation has helped my become more grounded, crestive and productive. It's amazing what creating a bit of space can do for the problem solving / creative parts of your mind. I've been using a very basic breath work meditation practise for the last 8 years, and a bit of visualitsation sometimes but the breath work has always been the most powerful for really getting out of my head and dropping into that vast quiet space where themagic happens. I'm amazed there aren't more guides out there - sounds like a fantastic project. Would love to hear more about it as you progress!
  • hello and well, yep, I do. Fro projects/creativity I try a combination of meditation and pre-visualization (if it makes sense), in order to kind of visualize and pre-establish all the different outcomes of both commercial and personal projects.
  • Hi Sally

I do but a very specific form of meditation that involves moving and engaging with the immediate environment

It’s called ‘Street Wisdom’ and is a meditative experience where you use the street and mindfulness to work through creative puzzles.

    Check it out at streetwisdom.Org.uk
