I've been looking for a full-time job for nearly one year now and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions?

  • @Ben Ingignieri Thanks for repplying, I have been doing loads of freelance work but I want to get some of that studio work experiance for a bit and decide which one is for me. Yet it hasn't quite worked out so I am not sure why. I try to taylor my cover letter as much as I can but maybe I need a bit more to land a job
  • @Anna Negrini thanks for your reply. Yeah all the interviews I've been to and asked for feedback usually tell me they've recruited someone who's a better fit to their company but I've never received any more specific feedback.
  • I hear you! For me it ws a personal connection that landed me the role, It was soul destroying being a faceless applicant. Network the hell out of every oportunity, someone always knows someone else who needs someone like you!
  • Hi Maggie,

I would always tailor the cover letter and portfolio according to the agency/studio's work your applying to and whenever you get the opportunity ask for feedback.

For me a turning point was to show more of the design thinking and process but it might be different in your case.

This article by Jessica Walsh has some really helpful tips:

    Best of luck!
  • Hey Maggie, what kind of design would you like to do in the future? There is a lot of branded print design in your portfolio which looks great but it could possibly help if you created a few more projects which are a little different, eg. designs for social and digital.
  • Hey Maggie, your portfolio work is really good! Have you tried reaching out for freelance work? Promote your services and get the word out. Also ensure your cover letter is structured properly, tailored to the company when applying. It may possibly be somewhere here.
  • First of all, have you applied for any interships? Done freelance work or networking?

Please feel to direct message me.
  • Have you had any interview at all? If yes the best thing is to ask for feedbacks. For me it's been really useful because sometimes it's not skill related at all (more about the company culture). Or - if it is - you can work and improve on your skill and technique.
