Description

Closing Date: 29-Apr-2024

We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. As the link between sellers and buyers, retail and head office, our retail operations team is the cog that keeps things running. With teams focused on store facing, labour, transformation, online, delivery and contact centre work, we touch almost every part of the business. It’s an incredibly fast-paced environment where you need to pivot not just daily, but often hourly. So while we plan all we can, it’s vital that we all think outside our job descriptions and look to optimise and improve how we do everything. There’s also a real team ethos. After all, it’s people like you who are going to truly transform this part of the business.
Product Designer – Design Systems (mid-weight)
Since 1869, our customers have been at the heart of what we do. Today those customers number in the millions and it's our privilege to design exceptional experiences for them. That could be tonight's dinner from Sainsbury's. The perfect present (for you or someone else) from Argos. Styling your home with Habitat. Finding the perfect outfit at Tu. And financial support from Sainsbury's Bank, all whilst getting rewards through Nectar.
Why join us?
We know that great experiences aren't created by accident. That's why we've built a large, diverse and inclusive team. It may be surprising but there are 80 of us. From UX to service designers. UX writers to researchers and accessibility specialists. Together, we craft exceptional products and services across all our brands and channels. We make things better, and we're respected across the group for the impact we have. Did we mention that we're an award-winning team? At the Grocer Gold Awards 2021, we won E-commerce Initiative of the Year. Our work helped elderly, vulnerable and disabled customers through the pandemic. It gave them priority access to home delivery slots. We also won Technology Initiative of the Year.
The Role:
You'll be working within our Customer Experience Design team. We design digital products for millions of customers and over 200,000 colleagues.
You'll work within our multi-disciplinary Design System product team. You'll support and collaborate with designers, engineers, product managers, content and accessibility experts.
Together, you'll evolve and scale our design systems. These systems empower our teams to create on-brand, consistent and accessible experiences. Your aim will be to understand how we can support teams across the Sainsbury's Group. You’ll get to know these teams, their work, and the challenges they face when designing transactional and non-transactional websites, apps, self-service tills, in-store digital screens and kiosks and loyalty propositions.
You’ll define and design best in class guidelines, styles, components and patterns. Your work will include iterative and conceptual design. It will delight our customers, drive best practice and help teams release faster. You’ll think systematically and design inclusively. You'll also be comfortable testing and validating your work. Millions of people will use the designs and patterns you create.
You can find out more about us, our work and our culture on our Medium blog.
What you'll do:
  • Evolve and scale our guidelines, UI kits, component and patterns libraries
  • Interact with design teams and stakeholders to understand how design systems can support
  • Engage with teams from across the group to embed guidelines and principles
  • Design and test concepts and solutions
  • Use data and feedback in your design process
  • Collaborate with diverse teams from different disciplines
  • Champion inclusive design principles in your work and throughout the team
What we're looking for:
Industry experience as a UI, UI/UX, or Product designer is essential, with experience of working on or contributing to a design system. As are the core technical skills outlined in the role details above. Alongside this, we're looking for certain behaviours and competency skills. These skills will help you thrive in a dynamic team like ours.
Skills we're looking for:
  • Experience of working on or contributing to a design system
  • Knowledge of how to design inclusively and an active interest in digital accessibility
  • Advanced Figma skills
  • Capable of conducting research and interpreting results
  • Influence and negotiation skills
  • Adaptable to changing priorities, complexity and unknowns
  • Confidence challenging your peers and stakeholders
  • Taking the initiative and driving change
  • Tailoring your approach for different audiences
