A Clockwork Orange

A book cover that conveys the ideas of the book without the need for literal depictions. There are two main themes; one that the laws of nature are dualistic and two that technology can be dangerous, especially in relation to how it can be used. The cover is made of two parts the main book is black cloth and the dust jacket is a clear plastic sheet printed with white ink. Both parts are needed together to make the information legible. This represents the dualism of good and evil which lies at the heart of the novel. I represented the relationship between communism and capitalism through the metaphor of the barcode. A barcode is a way to purchase goods, but it is also a way to track the habits of the consumer. As an idea it creates an interesting link, around the back, from capitalism to communism. Two things that are seen as opposites, that maybe need each other to exist.
