This project was my modernised take on fashion in Berlin during the 1920s. The design process for this project was heavily influenced by the theme of Exoticism - when it becomes "fashionable" or a "trend" throughout European art and design to romanticise cultures from far away as it seems to have a quality of 'mystery & excitement'. In particular it was very interesting to follow Eastern cultured being mirrored and imitated through Western Fashion during the 20s & and how political climate of the time, particularly for women, helped shaped the distinct look for the next decade. I kept this project as sustainable as possible, deconstructing an old wedding dress and recycling the materials. I drafted my own pattern, adding dramatic sleeves & used small pleats to create the draping effect down the front of the garment. Lastly I hand painted a floral pattern and heat transfer the design to the bottom of the dress, fading the ink each time to create a subtle ombré effect. I then directed the shoot working with photographer and model. Model : Floss Barton
