Alice In Wonderland

Brief: To design a book cover that incorporates handmade elements for the imagery, type, and colours.
I designed the front book cover of Lewis Carroll’s novel; “Alice in Wonderland”. “Alice in Wonderland” is a childrens book about a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children.
I decided to depict the iconic Mad Hatter’s Tea Party scene as the main image for the front cover. I made an elaborately decorated cake using sugar paste. I took close up photo’s of the cake, before editing them for the front cover.
I designed the typography for the title of the book. I wanted to create a typeface that illustrated the themes within the story, without taking attention away from the main picture. I achieved this by creating thin, simple lettering, before later adding elaborate details.
