To develop my project, Microscopes and Manipulation, I’ve begun considering how to create an app that would be a digital version of my previous workshops. In these workshops I’d proposed questions to the participants such as “Is there a ‘true’ image of an object?” And “Does colouring a microscope image add information?”. The workshops focused on facilitating discussion about manipulations, truths and discovery in scientific imagery and exploring practical, creative ways, such as directly editing micrographs through drawing, that the non-specialist can be part of the process of scientific imaging. The premise of the app is allowing users to select an electron micrograph image and then letting the user edit the image. The edited image would then be uploaded to an online collection.
