Artists First

In March 2019 the National Portrait Gallery held a fundraising auction featuring leading contemporary artists at Christie’s. The purpose of the auction was to raise funds to support a new project; Inspiring People. This allows the Gallery to feature the works of leading emerging artists and those pushing the boundaries of portraiture. This publication was sent to many influential artists who contributed a piece or created a new piece for the auction. For the cover design I started by looking at traditional picture hanging and seeing how I could play with the idea of the frame. This inspired the slanted rectangle shape that comes off the front cover and wraps around the back. This idea is continued throughout using the edges of the rectangle from the front cover and slanted page numbers. The book is separated into two chapters which is signified by the text colours.
