To commemorate International Women’s Day 2019, we partnered with online print store RoomFifty to invite a select group of artists to respond to this year's theme of ‘Balance for Better’ and create an artwork celebrating gender equality.

The 20 artworks will be released as a limited range of prints, sold on RoomFifty throughout March with all profits from sales of the prints being donated directly to Women For Refugee Women - a charity doing great work to challenge the injustices experienced by women seeking asylum in the UK.
We wanted each piece in the range to convey the message behind International Women’s Day in its own way, but at the same time have something timeless about it which meant it could adorn your walls any other day of the year.
By introducing a selective colour palette to the initial brief, the artworks are all tied in together as a set whilst also working effectively as individual works in their own right.
In keeping with the theme of balance, Grand Matter were keen to have a broad range of people involved in the project, not just those who identify as female. Doing this results in a wide variety of visual responses to the brief, while also conveying the importance of all genders having a part to play in universal equality.
Artists involved: Aistė Stancikaitė, Alice Bowsher, Ana Jaks, Billy Clark, Chrissie Abbott, Ciara Phelan, Ellie Foreman-Peck, Elliot Kruszynski, Genís Carreras, Gizem Vural, Jean Jullien, Kelly Anna, Kris Andrew Small, Marie Assénat, Marylou Faure, Merijn Hos, Nicole Rifkin, Saskia Pomeroy, Thomas Hedger, Timo Kuilder.
Initially established as an artist agency in 2017, last year Grand Matter also launched &wherefore - an online platform exploring the ‘why’ in creativity and providing a space in which to initiate meaningful collaborations.
Each of the artworks from the project will be showcased in an online gallery here, alongside an article written by company Director, Dorcas Brown, on the origins and importance of International Women’s Day as well her own personal relationship with the day.
The ‘Balance For Better’ print range will go live on International Women’s Day (Friday 8th March) at the link below, and be available for purchase until Sunday 31st March, with all profits being donated to Women For Refugee Women.
