Counting 30

Currently in the early stages of pre-production, alongside Little Grand Road's current project "Bringing Home Peter", “COUNTING 30” is a short five minute opening for a proposed feature film set in England. The restaurant Anthony finds himself in is a microcosm of modern London. Diverse in its population, attitudes and thinking. But it is also aloof, passive aggressively hostile to difference and afraid of change. Anthony sees all this and notes it all down in his notebook, a source of inspiration for characters in a novel. Little does he know that danger is right around the corner, forcing him and this dysfunctional group of individuals into a ‘Band of Londoners’.

Tonally the short is witty and snappy in its style making it both humorous and grotesque. It is vibrant in its colours framing the social examination of the characters in rare warmth. But it is a misdirection for what is to come. That warmth gives a surreal urgency to the grotesque behaviour of the characters and thoughts they direct towards others.
