Early Bird was our take on the RSA's Moving Pictures brief. We were given the task to create a moving image piece using the voice recording by Tiffany Dufu called 'Not Enough Time'. She talks about feelings of inadequacy and not being able to achieve everything you would want to in a day.
Using stop motion, we decided to do a piece that talked to the viewer in a less obvious, symbolic way. This bird represents the type of person Tiffany Dufu is talking about, showing that it can be a struggle to find food, build a home, look after your children and deal with other obstacles you may face.
Using this approach, we can engage the viewer to feel sympathetic in a shorter amount of time. This is quickly followed by bringing it into context in the real world, then they can start thinking about themselves and other people around them, building that bridge that they might have struggled to do before by themselves.
