Exhibition Tour - Bristol, The Station

  • Abbi Bayliss

This Exhibition was the first Venue of my Regional Tour across the South West of England. The Exhibition in Bristol featured 8 of my portrait illustrations, including a self portrait and a collage mural. Alongside each artwork was a curated paragraph written by myself, explaining my emotional connection to the subject and anecdotal memories throughout my life. The featured mural also included a mirror to invite self reflection, how you can be your own inspiration. I also hung and executed the whole Exhibition myself. 9 January - 9 February 2020 My work centres on my experience as a woman of colour in Britain. My digital portrait illustrations consistently feature woman of colour I am uplifted by either in my immediate community ,such as family and friends, or the greater global one, such as positive role models. To me, representation is a really important theme in my work, as I enjoys creating art that reflects the faces that aren’t featured enough in the arts. I’m inspired by women in all creative fields from poetry, theatre, literature, music and visual arts which I translates by illustrating them.
