Exploring my AfroBrazilian roots in Brazil

  • Kai Lutterodt

I'm currently on a journey of self-care and healing by learning more about my roots in Brazil. 2019 is being dubbed 'The Year of Return' - a call for those in the African diaspora to return to Africa for a visit or to live. This incentive comes in recognition that it's 400 years since the first TransAtlantic slave ships left the shores of West Africa for the Americas... I'm on my own 'returnee' journey, except not to Africa, but rather Brazil to discover the land of my ancestors who left Brazil in 1935 for their freedom in Ghana.

Find out more about my journey in my latest blog post =>> https://wp.me/p2wFyN-2Bg
I'm awaiting news about a British Council grant I applied for which will help with costs for a documentary film exploring my 'Tabom' (AfroBrazilian returnee) roots in Ghana. If you'd be interested in collaborating using your skills sets, or knowing more - please reach out!
I'm also available for commissions whilst in Brazil (I write about badass black women, identity and culture)
Thanks!
