Unintelligible to outsiders but romantic and poetic to the inhabitants of Aberdeenshire - Doric is the local Scots dialects sadly on the wane.
Through my screen print practice I wanted to do something to celebrate and popularise it’s most evocative phrases. For my most successful runs (Foos yer Doos, Loons & Quines), I drew the screen negatives by hand. The very process of creation and replication breathing life into this dying language.
The angular orange, red and black design sought to hide the words of Robert Burns’ ‘Ode to a mouse’ within the design, imitating the themes of the poem.
