Fragile Opulence S/S 2020

Inspired by a room while being trapped by the new rules of the UK Covid lockdown. "Fragile Opulence" was inspired by the alluring aesthetics of Whistler's 1876–1877 Peacock Room originally created for Frederick Richards Leyland. After a visitation to the Filthy Lucre exhibition at the V&A by Darren Waterston, I was intrigued by the fragility of the connotations of wealth and how easily it can be destroyed. I wanted to create a collection heavily inspired by the same beautiful Asian aesthetics but with a hint that its an allusion. I have achieved this with the sustainable use of upcycled and end of roll pieces of fabrics to created all my final pieces.
