Gruffalo Spotters AR App

  • Juliet Alliban

Visitors to 26 forests across England can now explore the world famous Gruffalo in AR. The Gruffalo Spotter (the first app of its kind) is made for woodland adventures where kids can track some mysterious footprints. Once the footprint have been identified, the characters are brought to life in stunning AR! Kids can photograph themselves with the characters and collect fun fact cards all in the app. Producing detailed wireframes and flows with progressive feedback and iteration. Mobile UI created for a variety of resolutions/screen sizes along with low and high fidelity prototypes. Guiding designers to assist with UI and artwork. The look and feel maintained simple, fun, family friendly UI using stunning 3D assets and fonts supplied by Magic Light Pictures, with engaging artwork and playful Gruffalo palettes. The app was released in Feb 2017, and selected as a special feature by iPad App Store. It was nominated for a Children’s Bafta (Interactive Children’s Category).

New Gruffalo Spotter 2 AR App, launched 2020 available for Android 7+ (Nougat) and later on Samsung S8+, Pixel, Pixel2, Pixel3 and PixelXL, Samsung Galaxy Tab S4+ on Google Play.

I assisted with UI and UX collaborating and producing assets for the exceptionally talented Unity Developers at Nexus. The app has an newly added interactive edge. Kids can wave, stomp, fly, dance and roar to bring the characters to life. Families can film and take photographs of the experience.
