If this is a man

  • Edoardo Albertini

The aim of this project is to explore the possibilities of the graphic designer to build narratives through text and image, by redesigning the same text with two different interpretations. The brief was set by Ravensbourne University, and required us to take on the role of a visual commentator to explore ironic, funny, subversive, political or critical voices. The chosen text is a chapter the book "If this is a Man" by Primo Levi, a memoir by a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp. The first interpretation juxtaposes the memoir with humanitarian and war photographs taken during the 21st century.

The second interpretation explores the contrast between the pain and atrocities described in the book and the utopian reality sold by big corporate firms such as IKEA.
