The first book to document the history of the International Institute of Design (IID), an independent school of architecture founded and directed by Alvin Boyarsky from 1970 – 1972. Through a trove of previously unpublished material, In Progress reveals how three informal architectural gatherings, held over three successive summers, can be seen to have established not only a network of architects and discourses, but a new model for architectural education. Like the DIY ephemera which came out of the Summer Sessions, the design is provocative and idiosyncratic. A custom typeface was developed for the section dividers, inspired by the bold, flamboyant, early-70’s typographic vernacular found in the Summer Sessions archive, and crafted to convey a sense of the low-fi print and publishing methods of the time. 272 pages, 215 × 297 mm Published by the Architectural Association, London and Graham Foundation, Chicago In collaboration with Joe Pochodzaj
