Ladder

A collaborative project surrounding societal issues. Focusing on class, meritocracy and precarious living. Our overall aim was to highlight these societal issues and encourage like-minded people to challenge them on a day to day basis. Outcome: screen-printed, using 3 A1 screens, double sided using two coloured layers on the front and one on the back. Folded down to make a custom size publication; accompanied by a Riso printed insert referencing the archive photographs used. Visuals used in the making of ‘ladder’ were archival photographs. Taken from Tish Murtha’s ‘Youth Unemployment’ and David Alan Mellor’s “No such thing as society”. Photographs used captured the hardship that the North East of England suffered during the Thatcher era. Photographs selected linked to each individual essay included in the publication. We decided to bitmap photographs to get a distinctive aesthetic when it came to screen-printing the publication.
