M Shed functional skills

Designing the functional skills booklet to support the teaching of the English language to disadvantaged groups who haven't achieved their English GCSE.

M Shed's functional skills program will be one of the first free programs run by a museum teaching adults and young adults the English Language to help them achieve a GCSE equivalent.

MShed is known to be the Museum of the Bristolian people, which is why I designed the functional skills booklet with an essence of the industrial MShed building with stong lines, angles and the iconic cranes.

I was aware that the aimed audience may have troubles with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, which is why I wanted to make sure the choices I made would work on both white and coloured paper to cater for their needs.

Making museums and education accessible for everyone
The functional skills programme aims to welcome everyone especially those who have found education challenging to the museum and encourage learning at all ages. It brings more diversity to the museum and allows them to access a wealth of education, heritage and culture.
