M Shed functional skills

  • Anna Morrell
M Shed's functional skills program will be one of the first free programs run by a museum teaching adults and young adults English to help them achieve a GCSE equivalent.
I was challenged with creating the teaching resources and worksheets for this new program, which were to be neatly put into a booklet. This project was very creative even though there were some limitations with brand guidelines and content. But my eye for detail brought extra creativity by cutting corners on the boarders and using similar shapes for bullet points. This gives the true essence of M Shed as  the building structure inside and out are full of angles and lines.
I was given the bare bones of the publication and told that this would be sent as a PDF to teaching staff who will print and photocopy on low budget printers. Therefore, I had to consider not using too much colour as most of the time it will be printed in black and white and on cheap paper stock.
I was aware that the aimed audience may have troubles with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, which is why I wanted to make sure the choices I made would work on both white and coloured paper to cater for their needs.
