Man-Made

  • Jessica Rice

“The body has been made so problematic for women that it is often easier to shrug it off and travel as a disembodied spirit” (Robinson,2001;578) In today’s society women are endlessly confronted with their own image and need for existence to the male world. As a result of societal expectations, women are faced with an idealistic body image that is merely realistic, which they feel pressured to look. From the earliest of centuries, society has been conditioned to viewing and observing the female body as an object made for male pleasure. Each image in ‘Man-made’ interrogates the male-gaze with photographs that capture and appreciate the shape and form of the naked female body. The work epitomises beauty within the imperfections we loathe, empowering women to love their own bodies.
