To celebrate the launch of the new Melissa / NEXT competition, a panel of industry professionals will be gathering on April 12th at Protein Studios to discuss the competition and how to “make it for yourself.”

There's never been a better time to DIY – whether you work in fashion, art, design, music, or film. But the question is how, and, more importantly, how to do so while remaining true to yourself?

How to do you will ask some of the most exciting go-getters from London’s creative scene about how they got to where they are today. The panel discussion, hosted by Ashleigh Kane (Arts & Culture editor, and freelance writer, consultant, and curator) will invite Tori West (publisher and founder of Bricks magazine and Disaster Zine, and previously the Editor at Neighbourhood.tv and Social Media Editor at i-D), Claire Yurika Davis (founder and designer of London-based label Hanger Inc), and Osman Ahmed (features writer and fashion critic at business of fashion, and previously Editor at 1 Granary) to share insights on their backgrounds and their career paths, as well as answering questions about how to find your voice and how to turn that voice into a brand or a business, how to navigate collaboration, and how to know your worth.
How to do you will officially launch Melissa / NEXT, a brand new UK-wide competition to find Melissa’s next incredible design collaborator. Previous partnerships have included Vivienne Westwood, Comme des Garçons, Gareth Pugh, Jeremy Scott, and many more.
Melissa now wants to put the future into the hands of the next generation; UK students. The winner will receive £5,000 and travel to Melissa's factory in Brazil to witness first-hand as their design comes to life. They will also be entitled to royalties from the sale of the product, and the collaboration will be launched worldwide.
