Modaul : Co.Locality

While working online over a group video call, we grandaunts collaborated with cross-city with peers from the University of Arts London, Glasgow School of Art, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The two-week project-based learning course creatively facilitated the development of our ideas, divided us into pods, and guided us in creating a Kickstarter campaign. All whilst receiving creative strategies and lectures from Kickstarter’s international CEO and other campaign experts.

When initially sketching the logo design I wanted the logo to represent the words uplifting and space within the design. This directly related to our project aims with campaign and concept that sharing spaces can help people of all kinds.
That is why there is a duality in the design, one box is bigger than the inner and likewise with the arrows. The bigger upward pointing arrow helps create the walls of the smaller box displaying the idea that bigger companies with many resources can help bring up and build smaller organizations with fewer resources.
Later in the process, we were asked to create a poster design for our campaign as well. The stairs kept with the idea of bringing up others in your community. The other half is a drawn skyline that communicates city because the demand for community space is most urgent in cities and where we imagined our concept to take place.
The logo design created in collaboration with Irina Teti.

OUR KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN :

Co.locality is a new space sharing app and platform. It helps people find and share space for non-profit community focused activities.
Colocality is a collective of 8 artists, designers, web developers, and musicians, developing a beta version of a social space sharing platform and app.
£22 million pounds have been cut from youth service budgets since 2011 resulting in 12,700 places for young people lost in London alone. We are developing this platform to develop a beta platform that empowers people to find and share commercial space for free. Whilst there are many platforms for commercial space hire, our focus is on non-profit/free listings for shared local and community use.
Businesses will receive community kudos and a free commercial events listing on the site, in exchange for allowing community groups to use their space for free.
For local businesses, this sort of social sharing can improve footfall, marketing reach, and revenue, whilst strengthening their standing and marketing profile in their local community.
Users can search and find free community spaces with a simple click, instead of trawling the web, or sending email after email. It’s simple – I have a space + I want a space = Connected Creative Communities.
The business can also rate the user’s use of space, creating a culture of verification and trust on the website.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Using the web platform and app is simple. There are two clear easy user journeys.
I want a space and I have a space.
If you want a space: select your location, activity, dates, and send a personal message to the space holder.
If you have a space: select your location, availability, capacity, any licensing and accessibility restriction and include some images.
After you profile is set up and verified, people who are looking for spaces can use the platform for free and find events hosted near them.
For a premium membership at a low monthly cost, commercial businesses will be able to have a customisable profile page for their venue.
To encourage the commercial business holder to share space, we will give them one free events listing on their profile page each time they allow a non-profit community group to use part of their space for free.
We don’t want this to be another cluttered listings website, so events listings will be restricted to each venue’s individual profile.
