Originally planned as an evolution of the Nissan icon style, this project soon went on to redefine what modern automotive iconography could achieve. Icons and pictograms have been a crucial part of our automotive experiences for decades. Our dashboards are awash with symbols depicting various functions, features and controls. However, as our vehicles evolve and interaction models change, these generic symbols are feeling increasingly at odds with the personalised devices we're now using to control them. Nissan sees things very differently. They understand that the digital experiences they make should be extensions of the physical products they create. Therefore, where possible, each icon has been designed to reference it's 'real-world' counterpart. Not only creating visual continuity but providing Nissan with a unique and infinitely more human set of assets.
