Old Craft. New Builds.

  • Rachel Morris

This project is for an interior application. Working with a mixed media approach it explores the key themes of modern architecture, along with the traditional craft of marbling. I was interested to work with the fluid textures that marbling creates and contrast this with the bold colour and geometric shapes within these modern builds. I decided to visualise my final samples within the same interiors of the buildings I had photographed for this project. The architecture group Berkeley has started developing the area that I had grown up in since a child and this gave me reason to document the fresh colours and definitive geometric shapes that they had chosen to use to give it a modern look. I was intrigued by marbling when doing a summer placement with one of the very last marblers in the UK. Marmor Paperie works predominately marbling papers, making each print unique and special and this is what I intended to do with my final collection of designs.
