Commissioned by Penhaligon’s London, ThickStrings Pictures were tasked with bringing life to the ‘Portraits Pleasure Ball’ a fictional party thrown by the illustrious Lord George and attended by many others from animal headed run of fragrances known as the portraits collection. “Lord George and Lady Blanche request your company at the most anticipated event of the year, where an evening of love, lust and fragrance awaits you. So, grab love by the bottle and acquaint yourself with the most coveted collection in town.” We let our imagination run wild with this one. With colour schemes inspired by Wedgwood pottery and details reminiscent of a period drama we set about designing and building every element of our set (from the columns to the chandelier) with the express intention of creating atmosphere and telling stories. We implemented a modular approach where individual walls could be moved in and out to allow each image to have its own look and feel. Then, with the help of studio lighting to bolster the drama we played out the stories of each scene. The result is piece of story telling fit for the Brigeton generation - fragrant telenovela if you will.
