PERCEPTION - EDITORAL

  • Thomas Dunn
Concept
Perception is a minimalist picture book aimed at showing how living life with an eye condition can affect everyday life. It uses everyday images overlaid with the eye condition on acetate, this enables the user to see how the image should be seen compared how it is seen with the certain eye condition chosen for that image. To focus on the imagery I kept type to a minimal, just enough to explain what is seen in the image.
The Brief
Delve into the world of Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics using illustration to explore, explain and investigate. Perhaps investigate a specific area such as gravity, algebra, probability, molecular genetics, quantum mechanics or polarity? You could return to A Level algebra or revisit Newton’s Law of Motion and figure it out this time! You could celebrate the abstract nature of the subject or the complex way elements interact to produce a sometimes very simple, tangible result. The possibilities for exploration and recording are endless and could encompass anything from animation and photography to installation and film.
