Portraits

  • Richard Cannon

A selection of portraits for your Friday afternoon. Portraits are my favourite genre to capture. You don't have much time in a location you have no prior knowledge. You need the subject to feel comfortable in front of the lens and to trust a stranger with their image. It's made all the easier with digital backs to be able to placate the sitter into seeing your vision but it's always a balancing act. You can take a portrait of the same person in the same location but the results can be completely different. There is always a mood factor between photographer and subject that dictates the final outcome. The American photographer Edward Steichen wrote: 'A portrait is not made in the camera but on either side of it' From a shoot there is probably one or two images that stands out from the rest. Why? All images shot in camera
