Scintillating Synaesthetic Supper

  • Kaye Winwood
A multisensory 5-course tasting menu inspired by the neural phenomenon of synaesthesia and informed by Structuralist film-making.

Five monochromatic courses – from white through to black – were served to diners on Overhead Projectors. The foodstuff, the acts of wiping, scratching and licking all created a series of colourful moving images projected around the room to create an immersive film/food experience.

A Scintillating Synaesthetic Supper was produced by Companis for Flatpack Film Festival 2014 as part of the Neuro Café programme. Sound was developed in collaboration with Andy Gordon (Telescopic Media) and the tasting menu in collaboration with Secret Dining Society.

Companis was co-founded in 2009 by Kaye Winwood and Sian Tonkin. It was a provocative company whose intention was to bring people together through food and art events, creating bespoke dining experiences to immerse the diner in a fusion of performance, food and spectacle.
