Secret 7"

  • Craig Nash

Secret 7” was an annual event that combined art and music for a good cause. They took seven tracks from seven of the best-known musicians around and pressed each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. They then invited creatives from around the world to interpret the tracks in their own style with these unique sleeves shortlisted and exhibited before going on sale on a first come, first served basis with all proceeds going to charity. You don’t know who created the sleeve, or even which song it’s for, until you have parted with your cash - the secret lies within. I was lucky enough to be selected to form part of the 2014 exhibition, where my sleeve was exhibited alongside designs from the likes of Sir Paul Smith and Jeremy Deller.

This was my design for the Elbow track ‘Grounds For Divorce’. The unhappy looking couple on the front are actually my Great Grandparents! I re-worked an old photo of them as I thought it was perfect for the song title. They're pictured getting off a plane back from their holidays, whilst my Nan is left to struggle with all the luggage as my Grandad is too busy taking care of his duty free cigarettes.
