Smile

  • Alexandra Knight

For my final year of studying BA (Hons) Fashion Communication at Northumbria University, I chose to focus my work around the theme of happiness as this is a topic I feel passionate about. In my final semester, I created Smile - a platform for positivity, happiness and kindness for my Final Major Project. Through Smile's platform I created a website, a subscription box service as well as a community hub to help connect people and tackle loneliness. The project also involved producing a Creative Strategy & Promotion document and promotional material. In a society dedicated to strengthening positive discussions around mental health, Smile offers an alternative angle, moving away from these pressures and alternatively focusing on the simplicity of happiness and what this can bring to our lives. With community and connectivity at its core, Smile brings people together. People who may be struggling, people who might need some encouragement and people who just share Smile’s passion for positivity, happiness and kindness. Smile helps you through your worst days but is there to celebrate your best days with you too. We all have our quirks, habits and traits and this is no different when it comes to finding what makes us happy. Smile celebrates all that happiness has to offer, whatever shape it comes in. With the growing impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Smile became an even more important proposal to society. My work centred around creating content tailored around lockdown life as well as aiming to lift spirits in uncertain times. Smile is here to help, to educate, to listen and ultimately, to make its audience smile.
