This project investigates how a person relates to a place and how a stronger sense of belonging towards a foreign place can be created by evoking comfort and nostalgia. I started the project by interviewing people who had to travel for work, such as travel consultants, trying to get more insights on how this nomadic lifestyle was really like. This was the most significant insight I obtained was a lack of an attachment to any particular city. Based on this, I investigated ways that can enable a person to feel a better sense of belonging to a foreign place and ultimately settle in better. My target audience would be people who have to constantly travel for work or international students who are in a foreign city for a relatively long period of time. My concept is a web-based mobile app that can allow target users to be able to locate and explore places in a foreign city that can remind them of similar places that they know and love back at home/ places that can remind them of good memories. The aim is that through visiting these places, the user can be able to create a better sense of belonging to the originally foreign place and ultimately settle in better.
