Superminimaps

  • Ana Laya

Minimaps are small travel guides illustrated and designed to print at home, whose goal is to leave the busiest route to share other ways to see and experience a city. The project is created collectively by travelers, explorers, nomads, readers, photographers, designers and illustrators from around the world who generously share what they know best and what they like best about their favourite cities: from the tastier restaurants in Buenos Aires to best places to swim in Sydney or the most beautiful secret gardens in Rome. The only limitation: each Minimap includes only 7 recommendations. The number is arbitrary, of course, but the idea is to cure the experience very well so that the Minimaps user can navigate the already existing abundance of encyclopaedic guides and websites with thousands of reviews that eventually become noise. Minimaps does not focus on the quantity but on the soul of the recommendations and on establishing a connection between the editor, the illustrator and the user of the map. A Minimap is like a walk guided by "a friend of a friend" that shows you the things (or corners, or stories, or meals) that a city loves. That is all. Minimaps was created by Ana Laya in 2014 and 38 illustrators and editors from around the world have already collaborated.
