Table making

this is definitely my favourite project I have been able to partake in, although it took me over two years to complete! I had to bring many skills together to create this one piece, designing, laser cutting, sanding, casting, welding, and sourcing materials! But the end result was definitely worth it.

This idea had come from work I had done on my final major project in my degree at Solent University, I wanted to create something from the surface designs I had done. I love how this design can be transfered to any size/ shape surface, I chose a small square shaped side table to keep costs low.
the first thing I had to do was source a place to use a laser cutter, I found a makers space in Southampton that I could join and I got to work. It had to be done on a laser cutter due to the curve in the shapes, as well as it being alot quicker and would mean each shape would be identicle.
Once all the pieces had been cut I had to weld together a frame to cast the design in. This could also be done with a removable frame, but personally I like the mix of materials. Then came the very long and dusty part, sanding the cement level.
After alot of research i decided to do a resin coat on top of the cement, which not only brought out all the textures and characteristics of the surface but would also allow the top to be wiped down.
