“That’s The Most Exciting Thing.”

  • Spike Wright

“That’s the most exciting thing” is a solo exhibition which depicts the everyday experiences of the members of the Saltcoats Labour Social Club through video and photographic pieces. Unfortunately, the production of the documentary was cut short due to COVID-19 but it shall continue once it is safe to do so. Having first visited the Labour Social Club in early 2017 for another project, there was an immediate welcoming with open arms. The aim of the documentary was originally to tell the stories of the members but it soon became clear that it should be more focused on them in the present time. I sat with them for many hours, just chatting and eventually I brought the camera out to collect a small snapshot of what they were talking about. The other footage from around Saltcoats are “moving photographs” which aim to depict the tranquility of the area surrounding the Labour Social Club. Originally, the whole project was to be shown in a solo exhibition, so I took the work in progress and created a virtual exhibition in Cinema 4D
