The Darkness of (Invisible) Disability

  • Darcy Keverian

My latest photographic works and collage overlay are inspired by the trauma I am currently enduring as a chronically ill woman. Invisible illness has robbed me of so much, and I feel like I am wavering in a state of limbo. I wanted to present an image of vulnerability and fragility, whilst cloaked with an obscure sense of darkness, because... frankly: that is what having a chronic and invisible disability is like. You are seen, but not. You are light, but you are also darkness. You feel helpless, yet hold onto hope. This is my visual take on the emotions I am battling... and I hope that people, whether with the same diagnoses' or not, can relate to the intensity and importance of these creations." - Darcy Che Dolce
