The Sluice Spring/Summer 2025 issue designed by CHK Design

The Sluice Spring/Summer 2025 issue uses the theme of “world-building” to explore our relationship with the world and the stories we tell ourselves about our place within it. This theme is reflected in the design through the use of Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion map projection as both a visual and conceptual reference point.

Fuller’s map is a unique world map projection that unfolds the globe onto the surface of an icosahedron, which can be flattened to two dimensions. Unlike traditional maps, it minimizes distortion of landmasses and presents the world as one connected landmass rather than divided by oceans, emphasising global interconnectedness and a holistic view of the Earth.

SLUICE magazine has been honoured with a Certificate of Excellence in the print category at the 2024 @istd.awards (International Society of Typographic Designers).

A massive thanks to @colophonfoundry for providing us with their superb collection of fonts.
